Out-of-School Children by Region

Despite considerable progress made since 2000 to achieve universal primary education for all, the number of children out of school continue to remain high in sub-Saharan Africa and South and West Asia. Over half of all out-of-school children live in sub-Saharan Africa, which is struggling to provide education to a growing school-age population. Most of them are girls.
